Initial Setup
- Ensure the Turbocharger is Cool: Before beginning, make sure the turbocharger has sufficiently cooled to avoid injury or damage.
- Ignition Cycle: Begin by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position, then to the ON position without starting the engine. This process helps in preparing the system for a proper voltage reading.
Voltage Reading and Adjustment
- Cycle the Ignition: Without starting the engine, repeatedly turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds and then OFF for 5 seconds, repeating 3-5 times. Wait, then monitor the
Adaptation value for EWGA
using the EK1 device's Full List view.
- Note: Do not start the engine during this step to ensure accurate voltage readings.
- Check Voltage Consistency: Repeat the above step until the change in adaptation value from the previous cycle is less than 0.05V.
- Voltage Verification:
- Compare the observed "Adaptation value for the lower mechanical stop of EWGA" with the specified voltage values related to the coolant temperature.
Temperature and Voltage Specifications
Coolant Temperature (°C) |
Specified Voltage (V) |
Below 25 |
3.7 - 3.9 |
30 - 40 |
3.65 - 3.95 |
50 - 60 |
3.6 - 3.8 |
- Adjustment (if necessary):
- If the measured voltage is not within the specified range, adjust the EWGA rod length by rotating the rod end part clockwise to increase voltage or counterclockwise to decrease it.
- Reattach the rod end to the turbocharger lever without tightening it fully to allow for further adjustments.
Final Checks and Adjustments
- Recheck Voltage: After making adjustments, cycle the ignition again and check the voltage. Ensure the adaptation value shifts by no more than 0.05V.
- Secure the Mechanism:
- Once the desired voltage is achieved, secure the rod end to the turbocharger lever.
- Tighten the rod end lock nut and reinstall the C-ring to ensure everything is secure.
Notes on Limits and Final Installation
- Voltage Limits: Ensure the adaptation value does not fall below 3.2V or rise above 4.85V. Values outside this range may indicate EWGA failure, and further adjustments will not be possible without replacement.
- Installation Completion: Confirm the adaptation value is stable and within the desired range before finalizing the installation.
